My being took shape in the geography of Urmia, where the sea was the primordial language and the mountain the teacher of silence. From that very landscape, the path of knowing began, and at Bu-Ali Sina University in Hamadan, through the Arabic language a window onto another world was opened to me. At Kharazmi University in Tehran and later at the University of Tehran this window expanded into an endless horizon of thought. Now at the threshold of two linguistic and cultural realms I am in search of that moment of perception in which “the other” becomes the mirror in which the self comes to know itself
