I am Atabak Feizi, an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering–Water Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Mohaghegh Ardabili, where I have been officially employed since 2013 (1392). I earned my Ph.D. in Civil–Water Engineering from Amirkabir University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnic) with excellent academic standing and was recognized as a Talented (Exceptional) Student. My international research experience includes a 9-month research stay at UCLouvain (Belgium) in 2011 (1390) and a 6-month Visiting Professor appointment at UCLouvain in 2024–2025 (1403), both of which significantly contributed to strengthening my research and teaching approaches and expanding international scientific collaboration.
My recent research and professional interests focus on hydrology and flood management, climate change impacts on water resources, drought assessment, simulation and allocation of water resources (surface and groundwater), dam-break modeling (experimental and numerical), and the application of artificial intelligence and soft computing methods in water engineering and water resources management. These activities have resulted in more than 40 peer-reviewed publications in reputable national and international journals, alongside active engagement in addressing practical water-related challenges aligned with regional and national needs. In the area of technological innovation, I am the inventor of a fully automated laboratory model of a dam-break mechanism (designed, developed, and patented in Iran) and have obtained international approval/validation for the dam-break model/system from UCLouvain, Belgium.
Alongside my research, I have substantial experience in teaching and educational management. In 1403 (2024–2025), based on student teaching evaluations and educational assessment surveys, I was ranked 1st among all faculty members of the Faculty of Engineering. I was also selected as the Top Researcher of the Faculty of Engineering in 1402 (2023–2024). Supervising and advising M.Sc. theses and Ph.D. dissertations, in addition to teaching specialized courses, constitutes a major part of my academic responsibilities.
I am actively involved in professional and executive activities related to water resources and academic governance, including serving as a core and expert member of the Research Committee of Ardebil Regional Water Company (JSC) (since 2015 / 1394), Executive Secretary of the International Conference on Water, Environment, and Sustainable Development (2016 / 1395), a member of the Faculty Specialized Commission (1402–1403), a member of the provincial Specialized Working Group for Monitoring, Evaluation, and Quality Assurance of the National Skills System, a member of the Hydromechanics Research Core at the University of Mohaghegh Ardabili, a member of the Research and Smartization Committee at Ardebil Regional Water Company, and the Northwest Iran Representative of the Iranian Society of River Engineering.
Throughout my career, I have emphasized improving educational quality, updating curricula and teaching methods, strengthening the research–education–industry linkage, and promoting interdisciplinary approaches in engineering. I am proficient in civil engineering software, with particular expertise in specialized water engineering tools, and I have strong skills in English academic writing and communication. Building on my educational, research, and executive experience, I aim to contribute effectively to the continuous improvement of academic processes and the advancement of high-quality education and research.
