Akbar Safarzadeh earned his PhD in Civil Engineering-Water and is currently a full professor in the Civil Engineering Department at University of Mohaghegh Ardabili. He completed his high school education at Sheikh Mofid School from 1994 to 1997 and was admitted to the undergraduate Civil Engineering program at Sharif University of Technology in 1998. He received his master's and doctoral degrees in Civil Engineering-Water from Tarbiat Modares University in 2004 and 2010, respectively, achieving recognition as the top student in both programs. His master's thesis was honored as the best national thesis by the Iranian Hydraulic Association in 2004. In 2009, he undertook a one-year sabbatical at the Environmental Hydromechanics group of the Institute for Hydromechanics at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany, where he focused on the hydrodynamics of shallow separating flows. Since 2010, he has been part of the faculty in the Civil Engineering Department at University of Mohaghegh Ardabili, beginning his career as an assistant professor. In 2011, he initiated the master's program in Water Engineering and Hydraulic Structures within the department. He was promoted to associate professor in 2015 and recognized as the leading researcher in the Technical and Engineering Group of Ardabil Province in 2016. In 2019, he became the first faculty member from the Civil Engineering Department to achieve the rank of full professor. In 2019, he founded the Water Engineering and Mineral Waters Research Center and has been serving as its director since. In 2020, he established the doctoral program in Civil Engineering-Water Engineering and Hydraulic Structures. His other contributions include establishing the Water Engineering Research Laboratory in 2015 and launching the scientific journal 'Advances in Hydromechanics' in 2022. He has also held 4 years as the head of the Civil Engineering Department, directed the Technology Incubator Center, and led the secretariats for the Executive Committee for Recruitment, the Board of Trustees, and the Promotion Committee. Additionally, he has served four years on the University Promotion Committee and chaired the Technical and Engineering Committee of the Promotion Committee.
